Singles – What is your type?
Many singles struggle with the idea of settling when years go by and they still haven’t found true love. Recently I conducted a survey for singles and I found it interesting that the response to my question, “Would you be willing to consider dating anyone who is not your type?” most respondents said they would not. They want to be in a relationship but the men they are typically attracted to never seem to be available or ready for a commitment.
When I mentioned “not your type,” I think that most respondents thought I meant “someone who is ugly, fat or average-looking.” The problem is that if you have been single for a while, your type may just be the man who leaves. How has your type worked out for you so far? He may be hot and exciting to date, but not the guy who you want to be responsible for being the father of your children or the one who will lovingly and adoringly wipe your butt during your geriatric years.
Instead of focusing solely on the physical type, you could make your type to be someone who is reliable, caring, sweet and committed. This type can come in all different packages including the ones that are just as beautiful on the outside. In dating, especially online dating, singles tend to focus on the physical attraction first and ignore the other elements that the man or woman has to offer. They search for the butterflies and chemistry that seem to show up more in the ones who are one foot out the door.
Almost every single person I worked with has found a partner that was not physically their type, but absolutely his or her perfect match. They were attracted, yes, but they came in a different package than the other failed romances had delivered. Some were older or younger than they imagined. Many ended up with a stereotype that they never knew was compatible to them or being with someone from another culture they had little exposure. What they all had in common was that the ideal person for them was amazing.
Instead of being closed-minded and persnickety about your dream man or woman, be open to someone who is a little different. Your perfect match is just a heartbeat away and you may not be looking in his or her direction. Take off the blinders and unrealistic expectations to decide what you really want. You have settled for less in the past by focusing on your “type,” while an incredible partner is behind a mask that you were not willing to look at before.
When doing your daily visualization of your partner, you should focus on the feeling versus the physical attributes. Really engage feeling nurtured and cared for in ways you never thought someone could. Open your mind up to the possibility of having a relationship with someone who completely adores you. You’ll find that your heart will lead you in the right direction and that “the one” will appear sooner than you ever thought possible.
